Future Goals
My immediate goal upon graduation from my masters program is to obtain a counseling or advising position at college or university. I believe this will allow me to gain a great deal of experience working with students, building relationships with faculty and staff, and developing my own style of advising. Eventually, I would like to branch out and coordinate a program that provides students with an opportunity to grow and develop. This can be any kind of program including mentoring, first-generation outreach, scholarship, international study, etc. I believe this is when I will get the most fulfillment and joy out of my job. Being able to implement, strengthen, and improve a program will allow me to grow and develop as a professional. In addition, having the opportunity to see how this program impacts students will be very rewarding. Finally, I hope to one-day work as an office director. In this role I will be able to develop policies that have a direct and immediate impact on students. I believe my previous experience as an advisor and coordinator will strengthen my ability to perform this role because I will have a greater understanding of what students need and what programs are effective in helping them reach their goals. I also look forward to serving as a mentor to other aspiring student affairs professionals.
